 Dominic Bannister pulls clear |
2008 10K Great Britain cross-country international Dominic Bannister won a thrilling race to take the Dewsbury 10K title.
The 2006 English 10,000 metres track champion burst clear from Altrincham's Dave Norman in the finishing straight. |

Approaching the halfway mark Bannister (Shaftesbury Barnet) led from Leeds City's Chris Birchall. Norman took over shortly afterwards and only Bannister could go with him.
Norman was still ahead in the last kilometre but Bannister had the better turn of foot in the last 300 metres and won in 31:03.
It was a happy return to Dewsbury for 39-year-old Bannister who was sixth on his previous visit in 2002. |

Birchall was 3rd with Mansfield's Luke Cragg who had set the early pace 4th.
The women's title went to Leeds City's Susan Partridge who repeated her 2006 succcess in 34:02 ahead of Blackburn's Pauline Powell in 34:53 and Wakefield's Julie Briscoe in 36:09.
Leeds City took both the men's and women's team prizes. |

| There was a total of 1097 finishers, just five short of the race record. |
